Installing fuel pump, checking pressure
99 Jeep Cherokee Sport
I'm installing a new fuel pump.Pump is in the module, module is in the tank, tank is back in the straps and everything is connected. The nuts on the j bolts have not been tightened up yet.
When I turn the key enough to prime the pump I hear it run for a few seconds. Yay. Finally progress in this hellish ordeal. But, the car will not start. My pressure gauge reads 0psi when connected to the schraeder valve on the fuel rail.
Now, this may be a stupid question but bear with me. I'm a novice mechanic. There is no gas in the fuel tank. Will the pressure gauge give a reading with an empty tank?
Another question. I found videos and instructions online for replacing the fuel pump in a 99 Cherokee. They all mentioned an orange washer under the fuel pump. I have no orange washer. I have a round metal piece that fits into a hole in the bottom of the module. Then a rubber piece that goes on top of that. Then a filter that pushes down on the rubber piece. Then the pump. Am I missing parts?
How exactly does gas get into the module so the pump can sent it to the engine?
