If you were going to pull the radiator for any reason, that would be the time to put on the shroud. If you have a 3-row, you may have to pull it anyway.

If there is no reason to pull the radiator, then carefully unbolt the fan from the hub as stated previously.

Hey ol'blew, catchy name you've got there.
I always slide the shroud and fan in and out together, it's easier that way.

unfortunately i had to unbolt the radiator and lean it forwards to get the fan out (and shroud in). the bolts on my water pump (where the fan is attached) were literally just a few millimeters too long and it wouldn't slide out

go figure. it's all good now though. a little more involved than I anticipated but hopefully she runs a little cooler now and the aux fan gets a break. but hell, my aux fan sure is loud... i think that might be the next thing to get replaced.

Just an FYI, the fan doesn't attach to the water pump, or at least on my Jeep it doesn't. On most cars it does, but in the case of the Jeep, it's not.

just installed a new alternator in mine...i took out the electric fan, and the shroud on the mechanical (in that order). had to try a few angles to get it out and back in, but no problems for me.

I must of cut the bottom off my original shroud years ago.
Why? Don't remember.
Probably had the same issue as the OPer, got PO'd and just cut the $&^ thing.

I recently replaced it with a new 'full' shroud. Made no engine cooling difference what so ever.
Waste of time and money.

Is there an easy way to replace this? I hear some saying it’s not needed, but I’m in hot/humid weather-will be pulling a small camper. Any thoughts?

I put the shroud on yesterday- super easy. Wiggled it, went underneath and pulled- just finessed it in, it took five minutes. I didn’t have to mess with the radiator, or fan.

The FSM says I need to remove the fan in order to install the shroud, but makes it sound somewhat difficult. From what I gather, it's only 4 bolts to get it out, however, because of the clutch in the fan there's a particular way to reinstall it so it functions properly. This is where I'm intimidated. I'm afraid of botching this up. Does anyone have any experience installing a fan shroud while having to remove the mechanical fan? What's the best way to go about it.

Thanks
You have to remove the 2 I believe 8mm bolts that hold the overflow hose on that runs across the top of the radiator to the overflow tank. And in doing so, will loosen the fan shroud. and you will just have to push it forward (towards the engine), and then get access to the bolts that way. Then just reverse to put it back together. It looks more complicated than it really is.

The shroud comes out fairly easily if you tilt the top away from the radiator to get the bottom of said shroud past the fan. And putting it back in its even easier cause you have more room to move it.
