Default Installed new headlights, cluster lights stopped working.

Late 1996 XJ, Installed new LED lights straight plug and go.. they work great, now I just tried to drive home and couldn't see my dash a single bit.

So the cluster lights and lights on the heater and stuff don't turn on at all.

Has anyone else had the same problem? Changing the fuses hasn't helped..

One thing i found weird was when i took off the original headlights they had a hole on the side where a single small bulb fit in (parking lights? in the main head light??) I just took the bulbs out and tucked the wiring away at the back. Hoping I didn't install the headlights wrong or something to cause this.

edit; example of headlights having the parking light hole here and the headlights i installed here https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm going to guess the old ones were european e-code, which sometimes has a small parking light in the headlight housing. Some modders light to put a colored bulb in there to make the lights look "cool".

ah yeah, that'd be it seeing as its an import to australia.

i moved the parking light wiring to the side light for now but it doesn't have holes for them to go through they've been blocked; for example https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/rLsAAOSw~2Rh5DZO/s-l1600.jpg I guess i'll buy some aftermarket ones so it fits.

I'm still having the problem of no dash/gear lights and parking lights. No fuses seem to be broken and hasn't helped changing them around. Can anyone help? Otherwise I might have to bend the knee and go to an auto electrician.

Have you tried unplugging the new lights to see if that’s the issue?
Nvm. Just read another thread where you said you haven’t checked the fuses.
This thread says you did.

Nah I haven't yet. If this were the issue it's probably just not getting enough power from somewhere right?

Led lights can cause strange issues. Taking that bulb out and stuffing that socket somewhere can pop a fuse also

I was thinking that could have done it, am I missing a fuse that I should be checking out?

I couldn’t tell you fuse locations on your XJ for sure. You should be able to research fuse locations. If you reinstall the bulb and it doesn’t work you’ve blown a fuse.

Note from DJ

Do you have a Grand Cherokee or just a Cherokee? The reason I’m asking is the actual photo that you posted looks like the one that the Grand Cherokee have.

my suspicion is it is a daytime running light, i only ever came across a canadian version like that. i would try popping a bulb in the open socket cause maybe it broke the circuit to the dash lights.
