Isn't the security system already doing that? Beside the steering column would remain locked? I would think the only way to steal it, would be to drag it up a tilt trailer in park.(mine's an auto trans.)

stealing any 4x4 is easy, unbolt the driveshafts from the diff, pull it onto a trailer, drive off. 2 minutes tops.

Or go under it, pop of the transfer case link from the floor lever, and force the TC into neutral and winch it on a trailer. there is a million ways to steal a car.

Or for a front wheel drive car, jack the front up, put the tires onto wheel dollies and winch it onto a trailer.

Motorcycles are the easiest to steal. takes 4 guys to pick it up and throw it in the back of a cargo van. There is a video on youtube where 4 guys steal a bike in 20secs.
<kinda like this one but a little more gracefull

My grand cherokee was broken into this morning. Smashed the drivers window. Doesnt look like they stole anything,... but still sucks.

My pops had an old Caprice stolen while we at home, it was early in the morning, he was awake, he wasn't quite a believer in fire arms then, I was like 10.

Again, my pops had the back of his truck broken in to and about $4K worth of tools stolen out the back in about two minutes. He had parked it at a hotel, gone inside to check with the receptionist, gone back out, and caught them in the act, ten seconds later they were gone. He still wasn't a believer in arming himself when that happened, but trust me, after that time, he was a believer.

I was about 14 the second time...

for my dad, his little motto I guess is "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, fool me thrice, you're gunna get shot dead..."

Funny how quickly things get off topic eh?

Great idea over all! I will have to try this! especially due to the fact that my ignition switch is worn out so bad, you dont need a key.

On my old Monte Carlo I have a coil switch hidden in the car. The only way to bypass this is to get under the hood, find the splice in the wire loom, and cut it out and put the wires back together. Or get lucky and find my switch. I did this after a friends was stolen via the classic pot-metal GM columns. I think G-bodies are ust about the most stolen cars anymore. My switch also doubles for if someone tries to carjack me I can hit that switch and kill the engine. Perp gets in and tries to restart the car and cant get it to start.

If you do anything to the wiring under the dash it will easily be seen and bypassed. I havent added anything onto the Jeep, yet, as I dont see it as much of a target for a thief. If they can see my sub box through the nearly painted black back windows then they might want to get in.

And really, is it smart to shoot someone you catch breaking into your vehicle? All that going to do is land you in jail and then the crook will be sewing your *** off. The only thing I can see happening that wouldnt land you in jail is pulling the gun on someone and hoping they surrender and lay on the ground or run off.

Since i have no locking doors i really like this idea. On the other hand i really don't see my jeep as much of a target.

As far as the guns go. In Oregon once you get your concealed handgun license, you can legally open carry your gun. Actually even without you can open carry an unloaded gun. So when i'm working on the jeep, or doing yard work i just tuck in my shirt. And leave the gun out. Its worked so far. Even the next door neighbor asked before he painted his fence on my side. lol.. But the last thing i would do is shoot an unarmed person. Even if they have a knife, and you shoot someone. It is up to you to prove why your life was in danger enough to shoot instead of leaving and calling 911.

I didn't want to keep this off topic, but i just wouldn't feel good about not saying..
Pull your gun if you want. But please think before you pull the trigger. Theres too many young people in jail because they just didn't think.

Ok i'm off my soapbox. And i will admit it would be tough not to chase the bad guy down the street with my AK...

you dont need to run it all the way to the starter........ you can do this in like 5minutes by using the starter wire already at the colum and just cut it and run lines from each end to your switch so like 2feet of wire instead of 25 same way you put a bypass relay for an alarm makes it alot less noticable if some one pops the hood also eliminates some one cuting it at the engin side of the firewall and all that nice 6feet of cable that would reach perfectly to your positive post on your battery eh?

my 91 was stolen and stripped of all of the stereo stuff.. but that was in providence....

as for my current rig.. they'd have to drive down the driveway, avoid triggering all of the motion lights, and be quiet enough not to make the dogs start barking (they bark at the slightest of noise..) OH YEAH, they'd have to find the house first... I live in the woods of nowhere..!

I would definitely suggest using the ignition wire from your steering column and NOT the starter cable. I'm sure you wired it up properly but the amperage coming off the cable is enough to take a finger with a ring on it off or start a fire. The small yellow wire from your ignition isn't even running 12 volts threw it, much safer and easier to do.
