Is there anyway to lubercate your Fuel Injectors? Mine seem louder when the engine is cold, as it warms up the ticking seems to be quieter. I'm sure the fuel system could use a good cleaning, would that help?

 

First id try to run a fuel injector cleaner through it. You can get wm at the parts house or gas station. Personally I like the Lucas injector cleaner & lube. But you can also put some sea foam in the gas tank it seems to work really well

 

BG 44K can't be beat. A little pricey and only available at repair shops as a general rule.

 

When you use a cleaner like BG 44K, and it clears out the carbon build up, wouldn't that clog your converter? Seems like it has to go somewhere.

 

A bottle of Lucas Injector Cleaner and Lubricant at every oil change makes my cars happy...

 

No, it doesn't. Whaddya think happens to very small pieces of loose carbon in a hot converter, after being burned in a hot combustion chamber?

 

Are you sure that it is not your lifters tapping? Your lifters ould be bleeding down after you shut if down or your oil pressure could be lower at startup causing a ticking sound until it warms up. Use the old hose in the ear trick to identify where the ticking is comming from.

 

What, do you think it comes out as a solid or something?

 

That's kinda what I was first thinking too. Or if the weather was colder than normal and the oil was thicker at start up.

 

I'm leaning towards lifters as well

 

If its got a fram oil filter on it that might be the reason its ticking a tiny bit.

Just changed my oil, I always use Mobile 1 10w 30, live in north Florida, doesn't exactly get cold here. This oil change I used a Mobile one filter as well, had a special. I've listened closely, really sounds as if its the injectors. I'll pick up some Lucas or Techron today and see if it helps. Thanks for the info.

 

Ok so this is what I've done. I got a can of Seafoam intake cleaner and 2 cans of the fuel additive cleaner. I put on in the tank, and the other I ran about 1/2 throught the intake witht the engine running. Right at the end I dumped alot in and shutoff the engine. While waiting about 20min, I took off the intake hose and sprayed down the intake real well. After 20 I started it up and went for a drive. Stopping and then getting on it hard a few times to help blow out everything. Seems to be running quieter and smoother now. Don't know if it cured the cold start noise yet or not, will check that later tonight.
On a side note, I used the brake booster hose to add the Seafoam, when I took off the hose the engine would idle at about 800rpms. I'm assuming that with the map sensor, the ECM addjusted for the added air. Well, if I put my finger over the hose it would stall out. If I slowly put my finger over the hole, it would idle about 500rpms. I could rev it and let it fall and it would stay steady at 500, no stall. This doesn't seem right to me, what am I missing here.
