Default Ingnition switch hot!

While driving smoke started coming from the steering column. Pulled over and removed cover. The red and purple wires were very hot and smoking. I replaced ignition switch but the problem persist. I it appears that the purple wire goes to the accessories and the red is from battery. Any suggestions on what could be heating up thar purple wire or shorting it out? Havnt found a decent diagram yet. 1996 4.0 automatic no luxuries. Thx

I unplugged the purple wire and started checking continuity from the purple to the ground as I disconnected individual accessories. When I go to the Blower control switch I found the connector to be burned. I disconnected the fan control and continuity stopped. I have read that blower motors draw too many amps when the go bad and start frying wiring. I would like to replace the wiring from the fans speed switch to the relay but the wiring disappears deep in the dash. Word has it I must replace the blower motor and the relay, but I don't know that I need to because all the speeds were working. Advice? Danks.

The dealer will have a repair harness that plugs into the ignition switch and extends about a foot until it needs to be spliced into the exsisting harness.

I went to the junk yard and had them lop off the plug I needed for the blower switch, replaced the blower but the wire is still getting hot.
