A 99 intake will also work and its not horsepower that it will change its torque more so than anything. A higher/better flowing intake will change the torque curve of any motor and the 99+ intake does just that. Jeep claims a 3hp and 8tq difference from 98 to 99 and as to my knowledge the only change was the intake. But the main thing is the where and when the power is made.

I don't understand spending money on a vacuum gauge, why not just go easy on the gas pedal?

From my experience having a gauge seems to forge it into my brain better. I don't have a vacuum gauge on my jeep but we have a 2010 subaru legacy that a a mpg gauge and I will tell you what bein able to see that you're burning money every time your right foot gets heavy has changed my driving habits.. my 2 cents

while a free flow intake manifold can deliver more power,it's only going to allow as much air to flow as the cylinder head and camshaft will call for upping the intake runner volume too much will cause the intake charge to lose velocity, killing low-and mid-speed power and torque.on a 98'-earlier engine runnig a stock camshaft and unported cylinder head,it's wasted effort.http://jp.automotive.com/124652/154-...ies/index.html

That is one article out of hundreds of people doing that swap. I think in conjuction with a bored tb 4 outlet injectors and a high flow exhaust the intake would yield a better gain but it is gain none the less. Just because 1 person lost hp doesnt mean it will happen to everyone's engine. I even said it would be a minimal gain at the most but you do get a cleaner idle and better mpg along with it and the fact that you can get intakes from JY for next to nothing...its worth the mileage in itself.

this was dyno tested and im sure every engine was made at a factory and doubt there would be much difference between any engine

I see no dyno chart on the link. I beg the differ when it comes to every engine is equal. I can tell you right now that from engine to engine there is going to be at least 2-3 hp difference and since we are talking about 10-15 year old engine some of which have been abused others taken care of some rebuilt you have a wide variety of factors that no one person could simply say...it didnt help me so it wont help you...case in point me along with another member of my mustang forum went to Brenspeed at the same time and got vortech v3s put on our cars(mine being an 07 with 38k at the time his being an 08 with 10k) mine dynoed at 378,352 his at 392,333. Same exact car from the factory same exact mods yet a big difference in power? Mine is also still running perfect at 8psi his slung a rod and had to be rebuilt. We both DD the cars and frequent the same drag strip a few times out of the month.

Yes...but the question is cost versus benefit.

The way you figure that out is take the amount of money the upgrade will cost and divide it by the percentage of fuel mileage improvement you will gain.

For example: $100 / .05 = $2000.

This means 5% of $2000 equals $100.

So, if you spend $100 and get a 5% improvement in mileage, you'll get your $100 back when you have spent $2000 on gas.

Sorry for the math but I'm a CPA...can't help it. I'm just saying that every time you make a financial decisions, it helps to "run the numbers".

I installed some hood vents made out of house-type heat registers painted to match vehicle color (I know it sounds cheesy, but it actually looks decent - I'll be changing them out to Chrysler LeBaron vents as soon as I get a chance)
Now to the point: these vents helped the cooling, but very little. (the engine compartment with a 4.0 is pretty crowded; not much room for air flow around the engine,etc.-maybe the bigger LeBaron vents will work better). The vents do help the engine compartment to cool down faster after the engine is turned off, though. The vents did nothing for mileage.
