I guess what he's saying is that propane is cheaper. So more propane for less money.

If I keep it under 2000 rpms at all times I gain 2-3mpg per tank. It's tough but the absoulte best way to get more MPG's is get a Daily Driver! Comon guys we are talking about a vehicle w/the aerodynamics of a brick. Drafting while annoying will also improve you mpg drastically.

Oh and as mentioned earlier running %100 gas is good for 1-2 mpgs

lol, very true. mine is an automatic, and "normal" acceleration for me is about 2500rpms. cruising speed is about 1500.

a gallon is a gallon and a mile is a mile so how does that work.

i konw about btu and all that but when you use same measurements then you cannot say its like getting this from this.

when you fill up do you get 20 pounds of propane or something like that? i am messed up with you saying gallons of propane. i thought you could not buy it by the gallon?
Yes you're right, it was only to explain the difference.
It is referred to the money. Lets say you buy a gallon of gasoline for 3$ and you do 18 Mpg.
Me, with the same amount of money, i do 25.(on propane)

Since propane (LPG) is a liquid gas, it is sold in liters (gallons) where i come from.
Natural gas (CNG) is sold in kilos (pounds).

The higher the number on gears the lower the mpg. And I dont see how your getting that everyone I know is getting 10 to 13 with 33s.

Default Wow....

Wish i got 17 mpg

Mines a 87 4.0 auto w/235/75s and i only get about 12-14 mpg with 90% city driving. of course most of that is just going to school and back, which is only like 1.5 miles each way

Its simple dynamics and physics, with a bigger tire, you need a higher torque to spin the tire at the same speed, which increases the load on the engine, if you can calculate the gear ratio needed to return to the factory torque requirement then you can improve your gas mileage.

I guess my Jeep and I are even more awesome

I was getting 23 average according to the consule on a manual 98 xj with 200k. If I drafted on the highway it said I was getting 28+. Since these jeep have the airodynamitcs of a brick you can actually feel the difference if you get a real good draft. I got from Union Hall, Va to Wise, Va (218mi) with about half a tank. Was getting 16mpg climbing up to Wise. Completly stock. All depends how you drive and wether basic maintence is taken care of. Gas mileage on my current Jeep is about 3 mpg less because of the tires. Also I always run 89 octane because the engine would ping a little under stress. Cheapest way to improve mpg is to make sure everything is in good shape. Maintence is key. Also a friend with a 2000 automatic claimed he gets 2 mpg more since he installed a intake and throttle body spacer.

I do 450 highway miles a week in mountainous terrain.
4.56 gears, 33" tires, lots of heavy armor and I get 20+mpg.

Default so how to i

so how do i go about adjusting my speedo for my 32x11.50's and also i'm reading in JP Mag and they have a chart stating what gears should be run for what motor and tranny

smallest tire is a 33 but for my 4cyl i read the chart as this
4spd manual= 4.56
Overdrive= 4.88-5.13

Given I don't run 33's, and was even thinking of going back down to a 31" after my Maxxxis BigHorns are done. Would those gear ratio's be good for me?

I have the AX-5 tranny, and i always thought that was a 5spd manual, but i'm under the impression it's 4spd manual with overdrive?????

There is no dead horse smiley but common is this really gonna be another bs gas mileage thread. Your not pulling 23 with a cherokee on 33's so lets all agree gas mileage in a cherokee is okay and end this thread.

With my 92 manual gear, 235/75r15, 62mm vavle body, my best was 17.5 and usualy 15mpg

not very good, but I'm only driving 5 to 10 miles, never long distance...

My injectors are probably in bad condition that's why I will ordered a new set on ebay... 4 holes... and remove my mecanical fan to ad an electrical one. i did this mod in my ex 2.5, and the difference was remarquable!

i ahve a 99 auto with 31's and 3.55s front bumper, rear bumper, roof rack. I get ~13 most of the time, ~15 if it snows becuase its forced "responsible" driving. I had an 89 auto with the same stuff on it and 4.10s that got ~16-17. i'm forced to run 10% ethanol. cherokees get ****ty mileage period. even my cj on 31 does better. If you want good mileage buy a car haha. Jeeps tend to break enough to warrant a second car anyways

OH SNAP, I forgot you drive my jeep whenever Im not.

last time I filled up I had 259.1 on the trip odometer and it filled up with 13.636, if you do the math that is 19.0095 mpg

if I run 10% ethanol my mileage goes down i would say about 15%
