imporving XJ mpg
I plan on purchasing an xj for my wife sometime this year because our first child is due to arrive in may and we need something safer then the pos metro she has now. my jeep is lifted with 35s and gets 12-15 mpgs, but thats ok cuz i love my jeep and it doesn't travel far from home. for her future xj i dont plan on lifting it or installing larger tires. it is to remain at the level it is untill it gets replaced many years down the road. at stock im guessing, correct me if im wrong, that the xj, with an auto, can get 20 mpg? that is a good number to me, but i'd like more. what can i do to get more mpg and what are you guys getting out of your stock tire/height xj's? thanks, Shawn.

I got about 18 average when my jeep was stock, some things to improve mpg would be a cold air intake, upgraded computer module(to adjust shift points), new fuel injectors(or have your current ones ultra-sonically cleaned), a new exhaust system would add some more horsepower/mpg's but isnt very cheap.

my xj is on 235/75 and i get about 15 city & 19-20 highway mpg. to me the only way that i can keep those mileage is to not have a heavy feet on the gas pedal. i pretty much drive by the speed limit.

I get about 18. But I am not easy on my Jeep. I make it perform at its highest with each drive. Testing its limits with 0-60 times and see how high I can jump the train tracks. Well not that intense :-D

I have an '01 that is 2WD (automatic) and I usually average about 20-21 with about 75% highway mileage. I too am currently reading up on some ways to improve fuel mileage that aren't going to completely break the bank. I would actually like to find a header that is either coated or wrap it myself because it doesn't do a damn bit of good for fuel mileage boiling the bottom of the intake manifold... I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but if anyone is running a wrapped or coated header, please chime in.
I'll probably stick with the stock air box for the time being, so I'm just going to run through and clean anything possible i.e. injectors, IACV, etc.
