I'm completely lost...
Yeah hello everybody this is my 1st post so ill do my best to explain what's going on sorry if i ramble. Long and painful story short just today I finally finished installing my 3 inch lift kit, it took me a vary long time as still learning and life getting in the way but I finally have the xj back on 4 wheels and i couldn't be happier. Unfortunately when i turned the key to the on position and after maybe 10 or 20 seconds the check engine light comes on and the Odometer it says no bus. So then tried starting it to see if it would reset or something and the engine turns over but quickly dies out then shows the same engine light and no bus. I'm really confused because I didn't have this befor I started my lift and I didn't mess with any wiring. As much as I hate to say it the jeep was in the garage for about 8 months with the battery disconnect, im not sure if that info is helpful or not. I did some reading on no bus thing and im willing to try what those threads are suggesting, but I I'm really just confused on how this could happen after installing a lift kit so I thought I'd make a post.
Any information or idea's are vary much appreciated Thank you so much.

Just to be clear I am guessing here.
My first thought is exactly what kind of shape is your battery in?
I think if this were me I would charge up the battery and try again.
You did see it has been sitting for 8 months.
While it was charging I would check all your grounds and connections.
Google it. Plenty of info out there which ones you want to be concerned about.
Now this in not just a "give them a look" thing. This is a " pull them off and clean them all up" thing.

First, what Ralph says^^^^
Did you occasionally start and run it? Did you start and run it before the lift?
Eight months is a long time to sit and not run. Battery fades, fuel goes bad, connectors corrode, wildlife make camp.

Hi: I had a near-stall, then it picked-up. None of the gauges then worked. A code reader said no problem found, although the CEL was on. While I had the reader on, I seen ‘no bus’ on the odometer. Restarting didn’t help, although it was running fine.. The rear hatch lock started chattering on its own. I disconnected the battery. That seemed to fix the problem. I have these quick-connects on the battery terminals, and one was loose. It was slow cranking when cold, but it’s been quite cold. Cranks faster, now.
End point, I guess a processor crashed from low voltage, corrupted memory, or something like that, and as long as the battery was connected, it wasn’t clearing..

Could be that disconnecting and reconnecting gave a more solid connection. If the connection is bad the battery voltage can be reduced to a lower number before it reaches the components.

If a lead acid battery is not used for 8 months (or charged) it should normally be regarded as no good, and be replaced with a new one
low voltage will cause all sorts of issues with a PCM operation
test the battery terminals a few times with a multimeter, it should hold above ~12.25V for several days, if not, its toast

Quick update
So i decided it was probably time for a new battery but unfortunately nothing changed. im slowly making my way through all my grounds and connections right now but as I said before I didn't mess with any wiring or plugs etc but I still think its good to go through them all. I forgot to mention in my first part, a few times during the 8 months I had some welding done on the jeep and im wondering if I could have possibly done some damage to my ecu or maybe something else.
thanks to everyone for the help I really appreciate it and I'll try my best to keep updating.

there is an excellent chance the PCM and/or some other delicate electronic component is now toast
