YOU are missing the point, cornflake pisser. How do you know that a cheap fix will last him till he scraps the Jeep? Assuming he doesn't immediately scrap it when he finds his $40 fix didn't fix it.
Why spend the time and money? Because the whole engine is worn. But the OP poster said later that this is going to be a farm or field Jeep. When it breaks, he can just get the mules and drag it back to the barn.
Also, O Omniscient One, I didn't screw up the computer. There was an original software error deep in the root programming that could not be corrected by me or tech support until the System Restore was done. That fixed it. Took a while to find it, too.
Apparently any computer problems you have had were minor.

WOW! Not getting any at home? Getting a little personal here aren't we?
Just for you because you don't seem to get anything unless it's spelled out explicitly.... That was an all encompassing YOU not a PERSONAL YOU.
There are other people that read this besides you, firestorm.
BTW I've never called tech support. I've been building my own computers since '87.
Again, good luck Barney.
Let us all know how it goes, OK?

Yes, YOU did directly address ME and MY comments in a post.
Go back to your cornflake pissing.
That's about all your "advice" is worth.

Alright finally had time to work on it a week ago. And to get more clearance between the pan and front axle housing I lifted the body by hooking an engine hoist to a motor mount via chain. Well I gained a lot of clearance but the steering linkages in front of the axle housing are still keeping the pan from dropping all the way. Have any of you guys ever gotten around this problem, if so how?
Edit: Without pulling the engine.

RUBBLE!!!!!!! yer back!
ok, this is what I did, just so's I could change the gasket.......
hooked hoist to engine, removed motor mount bolts.
lifted engine up enough (couple inches i think)
but..........in order to get pan ALL the way out.....you have to rotate the crankshaft pully/balancer with a b-bar and socket so's you can get to the oil pump and drop in the pan and slither the pan out, basically #5 and #6 have to be i think in the mid-stroke position (so the crank counterweight on #5 and #6 is up and away from the pan .
I know, I know, sounds stupid......but it worked for me.
good luck sir!

Figured I'd just update this for the 'benefit' of all who posted here and other interested parties. The Cheap Jeep is up and running (yes that $40 dollar fix worked).
And to commemorate this momentous accomplishment and since it rained a bunch here the past two days my brother (who helped me do a lot of the work) and I took it out in the pasture next to our home and ran it through some 'puddles' where there was water damn near to the rocker panels. Tomorrow we'll break it in some more, check everything over and make sure its all still how its supposed to be (dropped the front suspension for better access), and maybe put some lights we got laying around on the front bumper (being as there is conveniently two factory holes there on top of it already). I'm so damned happy it turned out like it did. After not being able to work on it for quite some time (college, work, and the usual all kinda put this project on hold) it finally got fixed. As my brother would say 'yeeeeaahbudddie!'
