So, basically my jeep won't crank. The starter tested good. The battery tested good. That leads me to believe the alternator is good. I changed out the ignition switch. I haven't checked the distributor or the plugs or wiring as of yet, it just started pouring outside. I'm sort of learning as i go, so does anybody have any ideas?

 

will the engine turn over but not start or it doesnt crank at all

 

I forgot to mention none of the lights or noises are working when the key is in the ignition. Completely dead. Also, the steering wheel locks when it shouldn't or not at all.
I got it to start one time. The steering wheel was locked so i jiggled it and turned the key, then it stared. The battery went to 19volts, and the engine sounded really weird. I haven't been able to repeat that oddity.

 

It doesn't crank at all.

 

sounds like the internal regulator in the alt is bad
is the ign switch the one with the key or the box?

 

the one with the box, i think i'll get the alt tested

 

if the wheel locks when ever it wants to and nothing happens with the key i would say check your steering collum
