Hey CF-
Before I tell you what my problem is, I need to say that I love my wife more than anything, and she has done a great job taking care of everything, including our 10 month old son, while I have been deployed.
Now, she needed to get in my 1990 while I was gone. She stuck "the square one" in the door lock and cranked. hard. it is now in two pieces, but she was able to get it out of the door, so my door locks are good.
I am an idiot, and only had the one key, so now I am looking at solutions. I ordered a new cylinder with keys online, but I am not sure that is my best solution? I know the local dealer can cut a key from the VIN. But with the wear my rig has seen, I am not positive that is going to work out. Can anyone offer some help on the swap-out? Or anything else that could be better, and cost effective? Thanks CF!

is that to say the cost of a locksmith is better than the effort to put in the new lock cylinder? if that is what it is, so be it, just looking for input from osmeone that has changed out a lock cylinder and/or had a key made?

unless she is just the incredible hulk, i would assume the lock cylinder had a problem to begin with. I myself have done 4 cherokee steering column tear down and rebuilds so i have it on lock. It is fairly simple and you should be able to tear it down and install a new one.

Solution found. Don't know why I didn't see this before. Kudos to Abovetimberline
