Ignition Key won’t turn to lock position, key stuck in ignition
Just went through the process of changing the ignition switch in my Jeep. The old switch would crank the engine with no key in it. After changing the lock cylinder, the new lock won’t turn completely off. I now realize that the old key had the same situation, but the key could still come out of the cylinder. What would cause the ignition lock to not want to turn all the way off? Jeep is a 1989 5 speed manual

Did you get the manual transmission lock cylinder?
Because the manual ones are supposed to have some kind of lock to prevent you from turning it all the way to off unless you push the key in or flip a lever or something like that.

Yes, you need to push it to get the key back to the lock position. On an 89, the key drives a rod that runs down the steering column to the actual ignition switch on the column under the dash. That switch might be bad, and I think you move it fore/aft to adjust can adjust it?
