99 grand cherokee. key wont turn in the ignition. tried to jiggle it. tried to turn the wheel. its in park. any ideas

This happens to me a lot. Sometimes it won't even let me pull the key out. I seem to be able to eventually get it out if I wait a little while. I think it has something to do with the lock that holds the key in the ignition when the car is running, but I'm not exactly sure what. Like I said, waiting is the only thing I've found to work. Hope this helps.

It may be that the ignition key is becoming worn – try the second key if you have one. If you have no second key – I would seriously suggest you get another cut, explaining to the cutter your problem. They may be able to make a slight adjustment to the cut of the copy, to allow for the fact that it is slightly worn down with use.

got it figured out i finally figured it was proly the lock cyl gone bad so i took the cylinder out and started it with a screw driver to get it home. then i talked to a lock smith who rebuilt the lock for 80 bucks. he said that alot of chryslers are having that problem.
