Ignition will not stay in locked position, turns without key
Hi All,
Vehicle:1990 XJ Laredo 4x4
Problem: Ignition will not lock in position after I take my key out. I can turn my ignition without my key now, but it wont lock all the way back in place. Im assuming this is why the key is no longer needed. It is stuck partially turned forward and runs my battery down.
Solution:??? Please Help!!! Thank you
Regards,
Devin

Sounds like, Here he calls it the "lock tumbler". It has another name I think, anyway in here, he gets to in line 15 or so.

A good bit down "Using a number 20 Torx bit, remove the lock cylinder retaining screw, and pull the lock cylinder straight out."
As soon as you can get to that screw might be as far as you need to go. Cheers!

my 90 was doing this for a while.
i had to slip my finger in the top of the column and pull back on the square lock rod in order to turn my ignition to lock.
but as mentioned, i usually just left it back far enough to turn off the power, then just turn the ignition to start.
but when i just wanted my acc power, i had to use the key and stick my finger in to hold the block while i turn the key back.
i ended up swapping my column with my spare.
