Idling problem

Default Idling problem

My 1999 jeep cherokee wont idle. It runs smooth n perfect but when you let out of it to idle it dies. I have checked air filter and its clean. Any sugestions?

Start with cleaning the IAC

I cleaned it and it still dont work. It idles fine till the motor warms up then it dies. Should i just buy a new iac or is it something else

Is the throttle body clean? Check engine light?

No i havent cleaned the throttle body and the engine light aint on

Well, just look for build up around the wings or whatever you call them. If they're too dirty they don't close properly and can cause idling issues.

No CEL doesn't mean no codes are stored that will give you a direction. I'm gonna call it as an o2 sensor problem, but other than that, TPS, IAC valve, plugs/wires, cap/rotor, clean battery terminals and cables, clean grounds, maybe vacuum issue, maybe fuel pump/filter assembly is partially clogged or just going bad.

x2 on the o2 sensor, especially since the problem only happens once it warms up. i actually myself had that problem, it'd run great till it warmed up then it wouldnt idle. o2 sensor solved it for me

Can you just cut the wires on the o2 sensor n fix it like that? If not how much was the sensor

Uhhh huh? No, you can't. Just replace it.

Go to rockauto.com and get an NTK o2 sensor (the upstream one). It'll cost you like $40

Ok ill do that. I also heard it could be a plugged cat or the iac valve. Does that sound logic? And the reason i was askin bout cuttin the wires is because i have worked on vehicles before that the wires were cut on
