I've seen them on a few occasions at the SY and even robbed a few for my own builds but they always were 87-90 and I really hate welding the disco parts together and grinding it down to fit inside a non disco axle tube. What I have noticed is they are much more popular on the Grand Cherokees. What I'm wondering is will non disco GC axles fit a standard Cherokee or are they wider? Also, can the CV part be removed from the axles and put on a U joint style axle without a bunch of cutting and welding? Thanx in advance

Your post is rather hard to understand. You want CV axle shaft for your disco axle thats in your 98? Why do you want CV axle shafst?
You can swap non-disco shafts into a disco axle by changing out some of the seals, search and you will find write-ups.

The Grand Cherokee front axle is a low pinion axle, it will fit without any major issues, but the high pinion axle is stronger and offers more ground clearence. Just swap non disco axles into your disco housing as stated above.

I have a 97. My problem is having a non disco and the only cv style axles I can find are disco style. I want the CV because I don't like the way U joint style axles perform in hard turns under throttle (aka doing donuts in the mud). If 8 second cars running on IRS and cv half shalfs can handle it, I don't think there's much danger in an XJ snapping any IMO
EDIT: I don't want to do an axle swap, only an axle shaft swap. My stock 97 axle is plenty bad a$$
