I want brighter headlights!
If they don't perform I'll replace 'em with one of the main stream brands immediately. You're sure right about cutting corners though .... I'm definately a 'function before form' type of person and I'll know PDQ what the deal on 'em is ... and I'll take pics.

Yes but the housing is just about as important as the bulbs that you put in them. Cheap housings have poor reflective qualities and are built with cheap materials are engineered to deliver great but rather provide "adequate" performance upgrade. Putting an expensive bulb in a cheap housing is not going to give you the illumination your looking for. Lights are just one of those things that you've gotta spend the money on to be pleased with. Cutting corners to save a buck or two just doesn't make logical sense in this case.

It's probably gonna be worth your time to uprade the wiring as said above. Fitch always does good work. Here's Go-Jeep's writeup on it as well.

I plan on getting some Delta Housings and a good set of H4 bulbs after the christmas budget crunch is over, in the meantime I'll be working on this to get ready for them. Another good point, my Optima battery really increased the output of both my factory headlights as well as the driving lights.

Ya dont cut corners, I bought a XJ off a guy who put in new housings and bulbs, they were really bright to look at but put out a really junky amount of light. I had to drive with my roof lights on whenever i could.

I've swapped out the cheap lights for the 20 buck sylvania ones and its a little better but I still cant really see well in certain situations. I'm looking into re wiring mine with a thicker guage wire in hopes that more power will solve the issue. I'll let you know, but the sylvania lights did make a difference.

These are the AutoPal H4s from Ebay for 25 bucks. Metal reflector, same right and left, and the blue bulbs (a couple dollar upgrade). The vendor assures me that the bulbs contain Xenon and burn at 4000K. The blue H3s are for the clear fogs ... installed but still waiting on a switch. Everything was packed nicely in boxes and looks good. On the down side; there is extra adhesive in a couple of places where the lens attaches to the reflector .... a little sloppy construction .... other than that; they look fine. Can't hardly wait to see how will they shine.
Tonight, since the rain has stopped, I'll adjust and take photos of the SilverStars by themselves. Once the switch comes in, I'll take some pics of the SSs and the clear blue fogs. Then I'll install the headlights and take more pics. Pretty soon I think I'll have a good idea of what is fact about these cheap lights and what is ... uhhh ... less than that

On another note, after reading all the posts, I'm a little concerned that both the fogs and the 200mms say "Off Road Use Only" ... lol.
