Well I finaly decided that i want to do a 2" lift,but i'm not sure what i should do. i'm not goin any taller b/c its my d/d and i just put bran new 235's on it. soooo......

I measured the front. It has what appears to be newer stock shocks. It measured @ 18 1/4". (no its not an upcountry trim) Is this normal with stock replacement shocks on the front?

The back is @ 17" with old a$$ shocks and the leafs are just starting to sag. I plan on replacing them with OM emu 2" leafs and stock shackle. I don't do hardly any wheeling b/c its my d/d. So its basically set-up for snow and light trails.

I am replacing the rear shocks too. I might get front shocks just so they are all the same age. I want to get 2" spacers for the front. Should i get a 1.5,1.74 or a 2" spacer.

Now with all that said I am wondering if i should get an extended shackle kit to keep it somewhat level after it settles. Will it settle?? Should i get a 1" shackle or stock shackles. I don't do any towing at all. hell i don't even have a hitch.


I noticed last week that i have vibes comming from the rear @70 mph and above. I know this is because the front is 1 1/4" higher than the rear. So i don't drive it that fast now. I'm worried that if i put the 1" shackle out back that the overall height will still have things out of wack. But if i don't then it won't be level. i'd rather have the back higher than the front.

So over all i think i should get the 1.5" spacer for the front. that should put me at 19.3/4".
the back would be stock shackle and the 2" leafs and the new rear shocks will add 1/2" to 3/4". how's that sound. so it should have a very slight rake.

So please guys tell me what i should do. Ijust want it to be right. I appreciate any and all your help. sorry for the length.

Dude, I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my 98 2 door and was wondering the same thing. Do those 235's fit ok on yours?

 

Yes they do. no issues on the road. i love them have not been off road yet.

the shocks alone will make this kit worth it.

 

The easiest measurements are the simple axle centerline to flare height (stock non-Upcountry, Front about 17 1/2 inches, stock Rear about 17 inches).
If you are measuring centerline axle to wheel well opening (aka flare) your back is standard height but the front is 3/4" higher than stock. Shocks do not affect ride height, they only control how fast/slow the suspension to vehicle position changes. (unless you have shocks with helper springs)

The 2" lift rear springs will bring you up to around 18 1/2" - 19"
and a 3/4" spacer in front to get you level.

I ran 235's on my cherokee before i got new tires they are the perfect size for a 2inch lift im on 30's with a 3 inch budget boost.

 

Thanks for the link. That is how i'm measuring it. The back is actually 16 7/8's.


Sorry i have to dissagree with the shocks not adding some kind of height.
I looked up the shocks that are on the front and the are concidered heavy duty not stock replacements.

But thats not why i dissagree. its because i see it whenever i measure it.
I have stock isolators and no helper springs.

The only thing it could be is maybe the po put on upcountry front springs.

Daddycat is right, shock DO NOT affect ride height at all

simple fact is that you can compress shocks by hand... it is not really that hard

shocks are not a spring, they are just made to dampen road vibrations, they are not there to hold weight , nor are they capable of holding weight

 

you are welcome and you may indeed have upcountry springs or some other longer springs up front (or spacers)

 

I appreciate what you guys are saying and i would think that too. I am new to jeeps but have been working on cars for over 20 years.

So then its one of 2 things.

Either the springs were removed at one time and need to be indexed correctly.

Do you know if these are an index style spring? Meaning its supposed to be placed in the perch at a specific place.

Or someone put upcountry springs in the front.

thanks for the pic. that is a form of indexing though. don't you think. i mean it shows an exact way for it to be installed. oh and there is def no spacers.

yes you're right the spring is indexed (rotated to a position), I thought you were asking if the springs could be indexed to different positions for different heights. good luck with the project

 

What should i look for on the suspension to determine if its lifted. Whats a budget lift?
