I think my temp guage is off
So I just got my jeep back from the shop it had a blown head gasket and it's now running good it's firing on all 6. But now the temp is a little high it's reading about 220 when it's fully warm and it goes up and down. I'm not sure if it's running hot or the guage is off. I have a thermometer that I put in the radiator when it was warm but I think it's broken because the needle didn't move. I also felt the rad hoses when it was hot and they were warm but not hot and the motor was just warm too. I recently changed the t stat and the water pump and the radiator was flushed and has new coolant in it. It's just scaring me that the temp is high on the guage and I don't know why. I have a 95 Cherokee sport has anyone had this problem? Thanks guys

Get a reading with a temp gun. And if it doesn't reflect what your gauge shows, then replace the temp sending unit (called the Temperature Switch). I'm pretty positive your 95 is the same as my 96 and the sensor is located at the back of the head on the driver side

What brand thermostat is in there? Because of mixed (poor) luck with aftermarket thermostats, I buy mine only from Jeep. 195 degrees. The factory stat provides you with a very reliable long lasting stat that also provides the least temperature fluctuation.
Best way to verify coolant temperature is by using an infrared point and shoot thermometer pointed directly at the thermostat housing of a hot engine. I use a Raytek MT6, got it for under $50 on amazon.com

The t stat I have in there is just an oem one that I got from advance auto and it's only a couple months old. Does anyone know how much the sending unit is cus I'm either gonna buy the t stat or the sending unit and see what it is but the cheaper one is first

Start with a thermostat purchased from Jeep.
I've seen a number of issues with stats from Advance. Be sure to install it with the jiggle valve at the 12:00 position.
