you know how the old story goes... Buy a 93 Cherokee sport 4.0... change the oil... BOOM! sounds like a damn diesel. I put in Pennzoil 10w30 High mileage with a mopar filter. My oil pressure is fantastic. but it certainly doesnt sound like it. How am I to get rid of this awful sound? or at least quiet it down. Thanks!

First oil change?
What did the stuff look like that came out? Real thick like someone was hiding problems with Lucas in order to make a sale?
Brilliant title by the way!

haha thanks man. and no actually. it all looked good. what you are talking about happened with the jeep that is my profile pic. Didnt make any noise or burn any oil till the first oil change. now it burns about 2 qts a week. anyhow thats another discussion. but this one doesnt burn any oil and runs great. just noisy as hell. am I looking at a rebuild on the top end here or what?

I was starting to think about the piston slap issue. I know they didnt correct that until 94' but that is only at start up when it is supposed to do that. and It could be the filter. I have another. I will throw it on and see what I get. it just sounds like it isnt getting oil really. I am hoping it is just a gummed up lifter or pushrod. How would I correct that?

Try running some deadpan through the oil and change it maybe? If its almost continuos it seems as if something is blocked in the galley, for one or more cylinders maybe? Just spit ballin

I run a Wix on my 89' and still get the noise. Some days not even noticeable other days it ticks pretty good at idle. It fades out as idle speed increases.
My plan was to start doing some marvel mystery oil in the oil starting next change to see if it'll clean things up a bit inside over time but if it's piston slap then I'll live with in until I get my other engine bored out and rebuilt.
