I followed the advice of others on the forum and slowly poured 5 oz. into the throttle body, then let it sit for 5 minutes and cranked it back up. Only a couple of puffs of smoke, but it idles lower and smoother, cranks easier, and seems to have better throttle response.

It only had 42k on it when we got it 3 years ago. Now it has 90k. We always use full syn oil and it has been very well maintained. Maybe we just didn't have much carbon? Most of the bottle went in the gas tank.

What experiences have you had with Seafoam?

Always works well for me.

My son recently purchased a 1988 Honda Civic with 231K on the ticker. Well maintained but still...that's a lot of miles. I used some SeaFoam on it and as soon as I started it I had to leave the neighborhood with it. Left a nasty billowing white smoke trail for quite a while. Got alot of funny looks from folks in the neighborhood too.

Car ran like a top afterwards though.

I used seafoam on my XJ but both O2 sensors went bad shortly afterward.... however from all I have heard I'm thinking it might have been a coincidence... Regardless... I don't use it directly in the intake anymore.

You need the run a full bottle thru to the top of engine, through the intake or vaccum lines, Then shut off the engine, and let it sit. THEN start it up and go beat on it little by actually driving it. Then your block will be bug free for a few hours.

you dont pour it in the throttle body....

I use over a half of a can slowly sucking up with a hose like this.

The idea is to have it evenly distributed in the intake. When im about done putting how much I want in I suck it up fast and make it stall or shut it off immediately then sit for 20 mins. Then YOU MUST DRIVE THE **** OUT OF IT for a bit.

I have used seafoam in dozens of engines and NEVER had anything but good results.

In fact last week my freinds chevy lumina kept stalling while driving, seafoamed it, it runs like new now.

My jeep never produced that big of a smoke show when I did it on it. However, I did my '03 Acura TL-S when I first got it and holy **** did the smoke billow out of that car for a good 5 minutes. Thank God i chose to use an empty park-and-ride lot to do it. There were a couple people learning to parallel park there I think they thought my car was on fire. I should have video taped it.

Sea foam os an amazing product. Its a marine product and has been used since the 70s. My grandpa used it in the navy. According to the direction you put a third into a hose that goes into the intake a third in the oil and the rest in your fuel. I have done all three but personally but prefer intake and gas. It will kill all the mesquitos in the neighborhood :-)finally make sure you drive it good after. I have done this on many cars and have never ruined any o2 sensor. Its an awesome product. Its cleaning your upper valves and helping them seat properly.
