Yeah. New shop. All of that is just. Ridiculous to say the least and put I nicely. I would have laughed in the guys face and walked out.

 

Well a long day down. Today my father in law and I replaced the rear main seal, oil pan gasket and rear diff oil change. Man oh man what a job it was. If wasn't for the help on here it would of taken a day or two longer. So thank you everyone. I have attached some before pics. I'll take some after ones once it's light out. Tomorrow I plan to scrub/clean the entire under carriage on the jeep. I still need to address where the transfer case is leaking. It is just so gunked up under there I have no real idea.

 

That's a good day! Once you get things cleaned up and dry underneath it should be a whole lot easier finding the source of the leak.

 

I wouldn't have touched the rear main if it was only a few drops a week. The xj was just marking its territory.

 

Good job on getting it done yourself. Plus you learn a little about your Jeep everytime you work on it. Hopefully my part numbers helped you out.

 

They really did. I bought everything else you listed today. Now I just need to figure out this disc drum voodoo. I need to do the rear brakes and its very foreign coming from VW.

 

When you do those drums, watch out when removing the little compressed coil springs - mine always try to shoot me in the face! hehe

 

Well I dropped the transmission pan today. I wish I had known the fill tube was attached to the pan. That kind of stopped the show until I searched on here. The manual didnt even mention it. The pan seal that was on it was tragic. I'm pretty sure it was the original. It took forever to get it off. A pinkish red nightmare. I started at 5 and finished at 10:45. Definitely not any kind of record. Draining and filling the transfer case tomorrow. Since I cleaned it up under the jeep I'm really doubting the transfer case is actually leaking. I'm betting it was just migrated fluid from the transmission pan.

 

I warned you, lol.

 

Replaced the drive belt and rear brakes today. I need to the jeep to the dealership tomorrow so they can loosen the Fill/Drain plug on the transfer case. I can't get the damn Fill plug to budge. No I didn't drain it first and then realize this... Oh and need to bleed the brakes tomorrow as well.
