Question i hope someone can help.

hi! this is the problem, when we drive our 96 xj, sometimes it gets this dying feeling and its like it doesnt get the fuel or air it needs(athough lack of fuel and air could not be causing this, but i have no clue!). weve replaced the fuel pump and filter, and weve put in a k&n air filter and breather filter. it also loses power when it does this and it does itatlow revs usually. what could cause this problem? and how can one fix it? we are confused by it! and another question, whats that big black plastic thing sitting on top of the air intake butterfly valve? and what does it do? explanations and answers are VERY appreciated! thanks.

mine just started doing this today...... only on start up once its past 1000 rpms it runs fine the second it drops below that it putters and shakes hard like you are about to stall it out. it ran perfectly last week! (parked it for spring break) i tried Sea Foam thru the brake booster hose. that didnt help any, i hardly got any white smoke (engine gets a quart of tranny fluid to clean it out the last 200 miles of every 3rd oil change). i am putting it in the tank to see if there is moister in the lines..... but i have a new fuel filter, less than 3000 miles on brand NEW EV6 injectors, Cap/rotor, wires(8.2mm), throttle body cleaning, battery, 2/0 battery cable, valve cover cleaning/gasket, fixed oil blow-by, new motor mounts. just the whole nine yards for my 166XXX mile tune up and, like stated above, only started happening in the last 24 hours...

i wil keep you posted on if i fix it or not

if you are talking about the black elbow that comes off of the intake and into the air filter box that is the intake hose. if it is something else, a picture tells the best description of what you are referring too.

hmmmm i have no idea what your talking about....

BUT i fixed jerking/sputtering/jolting whatever you want to call it. i put a full tank of premium(which is only $2.67) in with some sea foam, drove it down about 6 gallons and this morning when i went to fire her up BAM! back to my smooth idle with none of the previous symptoms =]

u can just put premium 93 in and drive it.didnt know i could do that.wont it do anything to the engine? what is sea foam? never heard of it. i was thinking of puttin in like a quarter tank of 95 and two or three bottles of injector cleaner.will that work?

yes you can put whatever fuel you want in! and it had not done anything to my jeep so far. i run mid grade stuff on a regular basis and search the forum for sea foam there is alot of good articles. and no that will not work.... one bottle of injector cleaner per full tank. you need gas to run your jeep not injector cleaner to run it.....

try taking off your throttle body and cleaning it. chances are it hasnt been done in a while and it only takes like 30 minutes and 2.99 for a can of carb cleaner

it is the what your intake hose feeds into, on top of the intake manifold

Although you said this wasn't the issue, I think only non US rigs have that. I know dukie knows of it he's posted pics in the past. I think it sits in the same place our elbow sits by the intake vavle

not to hijack thread but, you might already know this or it prob does the same but we can put seafoam in our oil it's like 1.5 oz per quart of oil. Do it like 100 miles before oil change and that oil will come out blacker than night but it'll be nice and clean next time

yup. the starches and chemical make up of tranny fluid is better cleaning agent tho. same as the dealer uses
