There's a pretty decent aftermarket for the 8.8 and it's got lower gearing options than the 8.25, which is maxed out at 4.56. Ring & pinion prices are comparable to any other rear end.

IMO lockright makes a great locker for the rear and they can be ordered from JC Whitneys, and some auto parts store also carry them, they are pretty affordable and not that difficult to install that is the plan for my xj as well
