Here's a member going through valvetrain clean up. Starts on page 4.

Hopefully it's not super urgent. I should probably change my oil a bit more frequently, though.
I had to stop for the night. I got the surfaces clean, got some of the crud out, and I managed to get everything back together without breaking anything.
So I know I can do it again.

I won't find out if I got it tight enough until much later. I hope I did. I used the Blue FelPro...but I slightly botched the tightening pattern, I think.
I'll probably have a look at it [how tight things are] tomorrow. Again. While I'm pulling everything else out in a race against the impending cold.
I ended up getting a call at sundown for a computer-and-phone related emergency. Had to give someone the bad news that the click-grind-click-grind means his 1TB of data is in heaven now.

Okay. Any recommendations for the valve cover gasket? I've seen a lot of people say 'FelPro', but I've also heard from one or two sources that they're a big name for no good reason, and some rubber/cork type thing would be fine.
I'm probably going to order my parts through RockAuto.

If it leaks again, I'll be upset. Because that rear bolt can go to hell.
Otherwise, it was as easy as everyone said it would be.
Tomorrow, the radiator comes out. And the water pump, thermostat, hoses, heater control valve, and hopefully the transmission cooler lines. I have to go back and get one more end, because they didn't understand 'two'.
By the way? Brake cleaner to the eye really stings.

Put the bolt in your finger tips and reach around the left rear of the rocker cover to get it started, then you can tighten it with a shallow socket with a u-joint drive on it, w/extension.
Don't over tighten the bolts.

It's in there. I just had to climb up, sit on the edge of the Jeep, and find a way to lean over far enough while not falling.
And then try to get around a bunch of things which will not move, combining joint, extension and socket every possible way just to see if the correct order is one I haven't tried yet.
Getting it out was easy compared to putting it back.
When I say that something can go to hell, it's a little like sending a bad kid to the corner, or their room. This is where you belong, and just you think about the trouble you caused.

This is horrifying. I opened the drain thing [petcock? Is tgat the right term?] on the radiator and nothing came out. But the radiator has fluid in it.
