when i get tired i get sloppy with words

but at least i spelled them right

a lot of times i misspell or mistype and when i am really tired i don't even catch it or when i proof read it it don't dawn on me the word is spelled correctly but its the wrong word.

i would love to learn to work on my jeep, i can do a few things and i learn little things here and there.

the more i watch people do (one thing i like on everything is to watch people work on stuff) the more and more it looks like something i can do.

but my biggest fear on working on my jeep for anything major is the fact its my only vehicle and i can not afford to have it go down.

i've been very lucky with it. i bought it in 2005 or first part of 2006 and haven't done anything major to it until now. just normal oil changes, new tires, spark plugs and wires, trans flush a two years ago, rear axle seal, and gas tank replacement from a rear end collision.

one of my problems is i would like to learn a bunch of things. i watched plumbers repipe my whole house and it don't seem hard.

i like when i can get stuff done in exchange for computer work, thats happened a few times in the past.

my problem is i tend to work on peoples computers free of charge its not constant and some insist on giving me something in exchange for work others just accept it as is, when doing it for free my thing is if it takes me a week to get to it don't complain if its done in a day thats good (usually waits to my days off)

i have such weird work hours and i can't sleep but a few hours at a time during the day so i break my sleep up so the amount of time i can spend on something is a bit here a bit there until my days off.

one day i start work at 10pm, next its 1am, then 6pm etc it just varies as does my days off.

an update for anyone who cares

i checked out the rear veiew camera i could not get it to work, theoritically it should ahve turned on when i plugged in a power source, so i took it off the vehicle and will test it inside on a tv and see what happens.

i did the breaks, i posted another thread for help on it, to summarize new pads knocking, old pads no knocking, exchanged new pads and new new pads knocking but not as loud.

i am stumped on this.

an here are some pictures of the engine of the vehicle if anyone is interested

It's probably not the pads, even if you are buying cheap ones.

When is the last time the calipers were rebuilt? Ever?

calipers never

i assume they are the originals but at the very best they was replaced before i bought the vehicle in late 05 early 06.

but let me ask one question

and i think i posed this on the brake noise question

would putting the new pads and rotors on and the noise is there but putting the old pads back on cause it to go away. could that happen if the calipers was going bad

and if i replace the caliper should that hose be replaced too? i've seen or heard some recommend replacing it but i don't see why you would need to if its not leaking.

If the pads are rattling, then they are moving around in their caliper housing.

Some kits come with anti-rattle thingies (for lack of a better term). Sometimes you have to get Disc Brake Quiet and put it on the metal backing plates as you put them on. It's kind of like Plastigoop.

The pads might also be on there wrong.

i don't think they was rattling they fit in there tight like the old pads which don't make the noise.

so i was stumped on why the old pads don't make the noise but the new ones do, in fact 3 different sets of new ones.

i could only think they need a lot of breaking in due to the new rotor (last replacement of pads did not have a problem)

or the caliper is causing the problems only because one side i could get off with my hands and the other side needed more work to get them off.

calipers are only 20 bucks each after the cores are returned

so that might be my next step.

Try Disc Brake Quiet first.

If that doesn't work, then get new calipers and hoses.

As I said, it's not the pads.

maybe your backing plate is hitting the rotor or something to that effect.

i'll try to find the package of lube i think its not disc quiet itself but its supposed to do the same job.

i'll check to see if they sell disc quiet

but now this raises a second question

say i replace teh calipers and hoses

should i just do the fronts since they are the ones having the problems or should i replace the back ones too. the back rotors are still good and the pads have over 50% of the pad material left.

just curious.

50% of both pads or just the outboard ones?

Freegdr has a good point. If the clips are missing, put them on.

If they are there, replace calipers & hoses. Only work on one end at a time. You have enough problems as it is without possiblly creating more.
