Default how will my 2.5 4cyl do lifted

hi, im new to the forums and this is my first thread,i just got my first xj and its a 84 2.5 liter 4 cyl 5spd the reason i bought was cause it was a manual, i was wondering if anyone has a lifted jeep with a 2.5 4 cyl and how it does, or would do with all the extra weight of the roofrack, bumper, axles, ect... i looked up the weight of a cherokee and the specs said 3300 pounds, but the 4runner has the 22re that has 117 hp (jeep has 105 but its carbed so ya...) but anyway the toyota weighs 3900 and it seems to do okay, so how do you think my jeep would do and what should i do to make it go a little harder. thanks

i had a buddy with a cherokee on 31's with the 4 cyl, he did just fine.

alot of wranglers run the 4 cyl and completely build there's up. depending on how much weight your looking to throw at her then you should be fine.

if your planning on bigger than 33's, armor, bumpers, racks, and all that jazz.. i would opt for the I6 for sure

Right on BrandonsCherokee! My first Cherokee was 10 years ago, a 1985 4 Banger 5 speed with that crappy Carter AF(AF?) electronic 1 Barrel Carb. I traded a family owned Black 89 Comanche 4x4 with a low mile well taken care of 4.0 and 5 speed for it. Seemed like a dumb thing to do at the time, but ive owned 13th Cherokees now, well actually have 6 of them I own now(two 84z, an 87, a 96, a 99, and my Beloved Silverstone Metallic 01), and Im obviously Hooked. I do have a special love 4 those 1st few year build Cherokees though, most people dont care for the first 3 years(1984,85,86), probably because of the crappy powertrain selections, but Ive owned two 84z and still do and love em one with a 196,xxx mile 4 banger 5speed NP207 Dana 30 Dis connect front Dana 35 rear 3.55 ratio drivetrain, the other 84 with 250,124 miles, one of my daily drivers with the GM2.8V6 (Rochester 2 barrel carb) ChryCRYcrysler 903 3 speed auto NP228 Selec Trac and Dana 30front Dana 35 rear axles with 3.73 ratio. Ive owned three 85 Cherokees, all gone now, with the AX5 5speed tranny and no 86 model year Cherokees. Some Advise if you want any decent performance is to get ahold of WeberCarbs.Direct, and order a Weber 32/36 carb for that AMC 2.5; otherwise that Jeep wont be able to get out of its own way. And a new mechanical fuel pump 4 Gud measure. Im gonna order a Weber 38/38 DGEV Syncronised carb for my 84 with the GM2.8V6 soon.

wow i hope to have a collection like yours someday. and yes that carb shall be bought. my motor has 190xxx miles on it and im givin it a rebuild kit and new vaccum lines and whatnot, that carb will definatley be on the list cause the carb i have now the choke is really annoying on it, and the previous owner jb welded it for some reason....
