If you have it faded properly you wont even hear the rear speakers.

Looks like it could be a plan, then... Any real reason, other than a thicker gauge to avoid tearing a wire later on, to change out to different speaker wire?

Factory wire in XJ's are very prone to breaking in the rubber boot between the door and kickpanel. Mine did, and there are countless threads here stating the same. Do yourself a huge favor and rewire with some good quality wire now and avoid the heartache later.

I've always liked polk and infinity speakers as well. They have a good clear sound and are decent priced.

You should check out local pawn shops for speakers too, some people are very against used speakers but I have always had good luck and saved a looootttttttt of money doing things that way. My whole xj setup is infinity speakers, rockford fosgate p3 12" sub and high powered kicker amp, all second hand (except head unit) probably only spent 1/3 what I would have if it were all new and have had no problems with anything (all been installed for around 4 years)

I just put this Kenwood X595 deck in and have no real intention to throw an amp in for the speakers right now. Comparing specs, it looks like the speakers can do more than my deck can.

Does this look like a good combo to go with? I may put a 10" sub in the cubby hole in the back later on as well.

Thanks,

As long as they fit your Jeep that should be fine. The two way speaker you are picking out is next to basic but you don't need anything better if you are not adding an amp and sub.

Once you toss in a amp and sub you might want to get a 3 or 4 way speaker set up since the factory locations are low and far in the back.

So you'd recommend a 3 or 4 way speaker over a nice component or two way coax? I've always looked at anything over two way as a joke. Lets see how many tweeters we can pack on!

polk or clarion.
i have the polk db series for my rear's (i like the adjustable tweeter.. they swivel a lil bit to allow you to point the high ends where you like) im not a big fan of kenwood. i guess it depends on the price range. also. if you are into sound, then replace the head unit. my 99 was a snap. probably the easiest one to do, and its the newest car ive owned.. i had alpine subs (2 s type 10's... a couple years old, but WOW! we bridged one down to under an ohm once... i thought my headlights were gonna cut out all together but it slammed!) now im runnin 2 clarion 10's in a sealed box w/ a matched clarion amp, only a 240w, and they love it... loud enough to knock a lighter out!

wire guage has a few dif. roles it plays...
the way it was explained to me:
amp- heart
subs/speakers- lungs
wiring- veins
headunit- brains

basically you dont want a retard, asthsmatic w/ clogged arterys and heart palpitations for a system
.
what i mean is, a good head unit will give the correct, quality signal to the ENTIRE system.
the amp and subs need to be matched for wattage compatibility.
the wiring is what takes the strong, clear signal from head unit and runs it to the speakers. if your in the 500w and under category, then no more that a 2ga. would be needed. over 500 and to about a 1000w a 4ga, down to 0ga. is plenty. ALSO! matching your ground wire to your power wires gauge at the amp is important.
when i soldered my headunits wiring to the cars wiring it made an improvment in SQ.
so yea, hopefully that helps

hard to beat a component speaker for SQ. anytime you can separate the lows, mids and highs , you improve the SQ... but im runnin 3 ways and they are ok... i would love to upgrade... as it is now, any bass that comes thru my sprakers is pretty limited.. pretty much all the bass is handled by the subs..

Well unless your baffeling your speakers and amping them your midbass response will be limited, the only real true bass you'll get is from a sub.

Only if you are going to add bass.

Just for the record, Best Buy. Tired of dealing with those fools.

Getting ready to drop the coin. Go with the regular Polk DB651 or go with the DB651 Shallow Mount?

3 and 4 way seem to add a lot more white noise unless you have some real high end equipment :-/

I've put an Alpine BT-103E head in two vehicles and used Infinity Reference speakers in my Miata. Great sound and inexpensive - heads are $179 online - speakers were $50/pair.
