high pinioin -the pinion is "high," coming out of the top of the diff
low pinion - the pinion is "low," coming out of the bottom of the diff
low pinion - the pinion is "low," coming out of the bottom of the diff

low pinion for any year up to and including 99.
high pinion for years 00 and 01.
unless, of course, someone swapped it out for a zj or tj axle. those are all low pinion.
to check, the driveshaft bolts to the upper or lower half of the pumpkin. hence high or low pinion.
