Default How to spot late 99

I am going to look at a 99 XJ. How do I tell if it is a late (331 head et.) 99?
Still have the 98 but am looking for a DD.

Taking earlier advice to avoid 2000-2001.

If it is distributor less and has a coil rail it is a 0331. I have heard rumors of 99s having the 0331 head but have never actually seen a single case anywhere. The bigger concern is when doing brakes as there was a midyear change for 99 but its not that big of a deal.

Forget rumors and other voodoo crap concerning "Late" '99 XJ's with the 0331 head.

'99 XJ's were not built with 0331 heads. GC's and Wronglers were built with the 0331 head/coil rail in '99.

Thank you for the support on that stance.

yeah i've never heard of a 99 xj with coil packs.

but the easiest way to tell the late/early models would be to open the drivers door and read the date on the sticker. up to 06/99 is early. later would be the late 99.

but i've seen some manufacturers would date their 00 as an 11/99 or even 09/99 for the build date, so i can see some confusion as for 0331 equipped cherokees dated as a 99, but those are only built in 99 for the 00 year.
