Default How to "SERVICE" my transmission

My jeep has a descent amount of miles on it now and I'm not sure if the PO every did a Trans flush or even changed the fluids, so I was wondering if it was safe if I can just change the fluid and filter without flushing my entire trans or would that mess something up?

Just clean the pickup screen & change the fluid, ready for another 1,000,000 miles.

You can get by doing a simple drain and fill, better than doing nothing.

Don't do a flush. You're probably over 115k-150k and if you say the PO never did any transmission service it can end bad. High pressure will knock particles loose that we're otherwise keeping leaks from starting. Like the others said just drop the pan and put a new filter in with 4 quarts.

I thought some people came up with the idea of disconnecting the tranny cooler lines, put the 'exit' line in an empty bucket and the return line in a big container full of new fluid. Start it up and let the tranny do its own work at its own pressures and flow to change the fluid.. When the fluid coming out the exit line is red, shut it off and hook everything back up...

This is just an idea I read somewhere. I might do it, but at 207k miles with a fuzzy PO care record, I am hesitant.

Actually a number of shops use this procedure now. If I knew what to expect it sounds like a great idea, but if one has never checked things out internally then the pan should be dropped and screen cleaned out (if anything's there).
