how to select full time 4wd on 97 cherokee
Ok...probably a stupid question here but I have a 97 Cherokee. I do not have the manual. I can't seem to figure out how to get it into "full-time" mode. I can get it into "part-time" high and low. Any sugguestions? thanks

Unless he has a 242 case with full time doing what you said would be disastrous. Unless your transfer case has a full time option DO NOT DRIVE ON DRY PAVEMENT IN 4HI!!! You most likely have only the part time 231 transfer case and driving around normally in 4WD will destroy your transfer case! Look at the plate around your transfer case shifter. unless it has a full time option then you only can use 4WD on slippery or dirt roads.
To be absolutely certain crawl under the Jeep and look at the round data plate on the transfer case. it will have a red border and a flathead screw right in the middle. If the model number is 231 then you have no full time and can only use the 4WD on slippery surfaces. If the model number is 242 then you will have the full time 4WD option.

I didn't say anything about driving down the highway in 4hi whenever you feel like it....I said that because you'd use 4hi on any paved surface before you used 4lo....
for example; you can drive on the road in 4hi if it snows...
