Default How much Trans Fluid in TC

I opened the top bolt on my TC to see if it had any fluid and I didn't feel any when I stuck my finger in there. So I filled it till it started driping out. Dextron Mercron is what I put in it. Did I put to much?

Drain it, its spec'd for DII. That is no longer around so you use DIII.

you're supposed to use auto tranny fluid in it, but I've heard of people using motor oil in a manual tranny, so I don't see why it'd be a problem in a transfer case. the viscosities are very similar.

mt-90 is great in the ax-15, and in diffs, I've never heard of gear oil in the t-case. I don't see why it wouldn't work, just seems like a waste of really good oil.

NO... A higher viscosity fluid like MT-90 is NOT for the T-case. The T-case is spec'ed for an auto tranny fluid for a reason. No one ever recommended motor oil in the T-case. And the new crappy Chrysler recommendation for the AX-15 has absolutely nothing to do with the New Process transfer cases. The T-case was spec'ed for Dexron(no T) II. Dex II is no longer available, so Dex III is the correct replacement.

MT-90 is great where it belongs. But to start saying "its good here" why shouldn't we use it elsewhere is how people get themselves into trouble. In a street driven daily driver its fine in the axles. But in a vehicle with larger tires, lockers, or doing alot of hauling there are better choices.
