How much oil goes into the transfer case.
Specs.
Jeep Cherokee
95
4.0
5 speed.

You fill it until it starts to ooze out of the fill hole, but I believe it's about 2 qts.

He asked about the t-case, but it's the same for the diffs too. Fill them till they begin to ooze out the fill hole.

edit - the process is the same, not the capacities.

You need to use Mopar Dextron 2-4 and it takes about 2.1 quarts...Tj

It's Dexron... no T ...
The capacity is different for the different Transfer cases.
An NP 231 requires 2.2 pints or just over 1 quart.
An NP 242 requires 3 pints or a quart and a half.

there is NO OIL in the transfercase.


it uses automatic transmission fluid. as for half these guys posting, ignore their info because it's wrong information for the question you asked.

whowey hit the nail on the head.

depending on what year the np231 is (renix vs. high output), it has brass synchros in it. that said, make sure whatever ATF you use is rated so that it won't damage any synchros.
