I have done a lift on my 98 xj 3 weeks ago,2.5" with OME leafs and zj coils and 2"spacers in front,I`m running 31" M/T`s and have done some wheeling and I have no issues with rubbing yet..larger bumpstops in rear and shims in end stops for steering it`s my reciept,no cutting in fenders.

 

Though a 2" lift will clear 31's. As long as leafs are in good shape and so are springs. However, I'd still tell ya to do a 3" lift. My reason. To give yourself some wiggle room. Room to grow into this decease of wheeling. I've seen dudes with 3.5" lift and 35's. Sure they trimmed. But it worked.
