How many drain & fills until it's red again? Drain for me is TWO quarts (not 3 or 4)

How are your rear brakes? My XJ clunks into gear a little bit too, and it is lessened when I have the parking brake on. When I back out of my driveway or a parking spot, I usually shift into reverse first and then take the parking brake off. Then when I back up and shift into drive, I've noticed that if I really stomp on the brakes I get less of a clunk and it doesn't lunge forward as much. A brake job is on my short list of repairs.

LOL, fair enough, but I have no idea what either of those things are,
or where they are located,
or if it's even possible to do for a beginner like me.
To check the slip yoke, you need to take it apart like this?

Or, do you use a grease gun to inject grease? This write-up doesn't really help beyond that

How do you check the u-joint?
How do you grease a u-joint?
Or do you just replace the u-joint?
If I conclude this is too complex for my ability level, and take it to a mechanic,
I can tell him to replace the u-joint and grease the slip yoke at the same time?
They can both be done together? These are common maint. items, correct?

I would secure a 5 gallon pail of DEXIII/Merc upside down above the fill tube with hose going from pail to fill tube. Then I would start her up(Cherokee rear axle up on jacks so wheels can spin, Obviously in 2 wheel drive), open drain plug, let 5 gallons Rip, put her in Drive, then Neutral, then Reverse, back and forth until 5 gallons is almost gone. Put drain plug back in. Check Level on flat ground, Hot.
Oh crap, no body take that seriously lol.

Just do a AX-15 swap & call it done.

The correct way to do that is to remove both lines from the trans cooler. Place the suction line into a large, clean glass jar you keep filled with fluid as it is drawn out, the other into a waste bucket.

I have now done 4 drain and fills.
There was finally a hint of red, but the fluid is still 95% black.
I am going to leave this alone for a while.
I might do 4 more drain and fills a few months from now.
