How to make a stroker?
Ok so iv searched and searched, cant find the exact answer im looking for. Iv read what the differences are between the different kinds of strokers you can build so please dont repost that info. I just want someone to explain this process in laymens terms so that i can understand it. Iv never rebuild an engine, so im kinda learning as i go.
I have a 1996 cherokee 4.0 4x4...i just want to know what the easiest, cheapest way is to make my 4.0 a stroker...
I know there are several ways to do this, im trying to figure out which way has the least amount of work/parts that i would have to do..
Can i just add a cam or crankshaft? Is there any macheining involved?
Or do i have to get the block bored, new pistons, rods, ect..?

I have never built a stroker but have many motors, the main difference between a stock 4.0 and stroker is displacement, meaning stroke of piston and dia of piston.
The main component of a stroker is the crankshaft,it is where the term stroker comes from,it changes the length the piston travels, and the cylinders are bored at least 30 over and sometimes 60 over.
Adding an aftermarket cam is also important.
To build a stroker you will need a
1.crankshaft from a older 258 motor and connecting rods.
2.new camshaft
3.engine bored at least 30 over
Those are the basics.
I would also contact a member on here called frankz,he has from what I can tell alot more exsperience,I am sure there is more that will chim in.

If you use the 4.2L (258 cu in) AMC crank & rods in place of the 4.0L's stock parts but keep the stock bore you get a 4.5L stroker. If you bore it .030 over you get a 4.6L. And boring it .060 over you get a 4.7L. You have to machine the 4.2's crank snout to accept the 4.0's accessory drive pulley/balancer.
