Ya know, all these replies and we never heard back from the original poster.
Is it a trail or road?

just scratch cat removal off the list. its illegal, and gives treehuggers ammunition to help with trail closures.

same goes for muffler removal, if you have a loud obnoxious vehicle, chances are someone is going to hear it and complain, just gives responsible wheelers a bad name.

That was the other point I meant to make. It's not illegal everywhere, but it's harmful to the environment regardless. Our sport is not looked highly upon by the hippies that like to take control of local lands and watersheds. Running a loud, obnoxious vehicle that blows unfiltered exhaust fumes into creek beds and undergrowth does nothing but hurt the sport as a whole. So don't do it.

i just installed a flowmaster super 44 series on my xj with the 2 1/4 inch pipe. Gives it a nice beefy sound, not a rice rocket sound. At the same time, when i'm driving on the highway it doesn't give me a pounding headache, i highly recommend it.

One of my buddies have also talked about installing Flowmaster Super 44 Series Mufflers on his truck... He said that this muffler delivers a deep rich tone with an improved flow path radius and optimum internal flow... At $87.95, worth it...

I suffered from the same problem, until I started riding a motorcyle!! I find that now I look at least once for everything. I basically ride like I'm invisible, and try to think a few steps ahead of everthing!!

Yes I feel that after all the years of riding that I watch out more for motorcyclists than the average driver. As for the loud Harleys, I rather enjoy the sound.

On my 98 TJ I have a Borla header and a Borla cat-back by no means a quiet set-up but not obnoxious I am planning on a similar install on the wife's 01 XJ like was earlier stated nothing wrong with a performance exhaust that sounds performance however glass-packs and no cat no muffler set-ups belong on a racetrack not on a trail just my $.02

How are the glass packs? I was wanting to do this, but i don't want anything stupidly annoying and so loud i would not be able to hear my spotter?

EDIT: I would still have the cat!

Buy your spotter a handheld loudspeaker for trail use in far back country. That way you can run a cheap glasspack and enjoy that sound b/c you won't be able to hear the radio either. Loud=SUX!!!

Sorry Blue, you and I don't see the same image with Harley Davidsons. Some of them are WAY TO LOUD!! Some import bikes are way too loud, as well!! Period!! I also think that for the price that you are paying, for an ancient design and outdated technology, it's not worth it. No offense to Harley owners on the board, I don't like them, therefore I don't own one. If that's what you like, then enjoy. BTW, they are a BEAUTIFUL motorcycle, they just are not worth that kind of money for looks alone. I'll STFU now and prepare for your beatings!! Peace out!!

No problem to each his own. Mine is ancient. A 1976 74 cu in not a newer one. Mine is so old that it is getting hard to get parts for. I ride rarely anymore as it has become too dangerous here with the increased traffic of Mexican Nationals which are here taking advantage of the cheap dollar. But that is another thread.

Haha, don't worry COSXJFAN, I don't like Harleys either. Loud, too much chrome, ancient technology and a ridiculous price tag. The only way I'd drive a Harley is if was a 50s/60s model stripped down to a rat-rod style. But if I'm going that far back, I'd rather have a Triumph or an Indian. I just feel like you're paying boo-coo dollars to be part of a club full of patent leather and tassles, which is just a shade too homo-erotic for my tastes.
