if you're looking for a battery, you need one like mine. I dont think its any special brand and i cant remember what its called at the moment, but its a BEAST. Everytime i clean my jeep i turn the music up really loud (loud enough to hear the radio with all the doors and windows closed) and leave it on until im done (usually takes 3 or more hours...i like her clean
) and she always cranks right up with no hesitation. And i also have a amp pulling around 500 watts bridged to two 12s running too, of course they're not all the way up tho. Whats really surprised me was when we had to work on my sisters car in the dark and i turned all my lights on including my fog lights, and turned the radio up enough to hear it, forgot it was all on and left it like that for around 2 hours or more...AND IT STILL CRANKED!!! lol
Sorry i know, very off topic, just thought i would share that story with you all
also, a little fun fact. If you put a car audio capacitor in your vehicle, and your battery gets too low to crank your jeep, the power will send back from the capacitor and go to your battery, letting you crank your jeep
found that out the fun way..

Renix (87-90) 4.0's are supposed to take longer to start. The computer must see a certain RPM before it allows the engine to start.
91+ are supposed to start quicker (within a few cranks) and the 2000-2001 will be even faster than that with the coil pack ignition. If starting takes more than one try, or you have long crank times, do a tune up. Make sure your plugs, cap, rotor, and wires are in good shape. If it still takes a long time you will need either a new fuel pump or check valve. Testing the fuel pressure will tell you which one.
If you have slow cranking you can:
-Get a bigger battery
-Get thicker battery cables
-both
My 1990 XJ always cranked slow. I got an Optima Red Top battery and some bigger cables. It starts just as fast as my 2000.

Ok so I went outside and did the ignition test thingy...I turned the key all the way forward but didn't start it for about 5-10 seconds...then I cranked her over, the starter cranked at a decent enough speed... but it still took a few seconds to start. and when it did start it ran smooth for just a second then idle rough for about 4 seconds and then smoothed out and was fine after that.
I checked the battery cables and the are clean and have red sealant/ protectant on the connecting ends, no corrosion. I will throw the shumacher on the jeep to load test and charge the battery to peak later tonight...
But if this is a leaky injector as indicated by the diagnostics posted how do I test or check for a faulty injector?
Oh and I love the chuck norris reference, LMAO.

It takes 3-5 seconds for mine. I have replaced the plugs, coil, and battery, still didn't help. I also read about the heat soak issue, so I wrapped all the injectors in a heat shield.....still didn't help! it starts fine when it is cold....even if has not been started in a couple days.....but after a 10-20 minute drive it will crank and crank before starting. Very frustrating, if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it
i just purchased a 94 and it started right up at first but now when i try cranking it it loses power to the point it seems the battery is dead but if i hold the key down it starts right up after a few seconds

Well I charged the battery to full over night the night before last, the battery only charges to 12. something volts but was 100 percent charged according to the shumacher. I am thinking that a interstate or an optima is in order now...
I saw a few guy mention getting a better ignition system installed, but what system did u guys use??? I have been reading a few older builds and seen a few brands like DUI mentioned, but which one should I go with?
Oh and on a side note, last night came home and parked the XJ and just sat there for a few seconds...then I started hearing a loud gurgling from the fuel tank...does that mean that valve is bad or working like it is suppose to?
Thanks for all your guys help!!!

My 95' is about average on starting, my Renix cranking time can be measured using a sun dial. I plan on taking it on a trip in May, so next week I'm gonna start turning the key.
