Default How are the leaf springs suppose to sit?

I was washing the dirt out from under mine yesterday and the rear leafs were pretty much flat with the weight of the jeep on them. I know they are curve unloaded but dont know how the react once weight is put on them. I also have a shackle lift, if that matters.

They are supposed to be arched. But do to them being on a cherokee they flatten out after time. Its up to you if you want to replace them with new or newer unit to combat this and return your jeep to where it's supposed to sit.

It's not that bad. Yeah, they're flat, but the fix (new/replacement springs) is not hard and doesn't have to be expensive.

I was looking at new springs and they are like $120 a piece, depending where I get em. Thats way more than Im looking to spend. changing them isnt the problem.

I don't know if you have a lift, but click here for stock replacement ...

HERE for heavy duty stock replacement ... and there might be less expensive places.

Even the Old Man Emu don't cost $120 each - and they're easily the most expensive springs money can buy. Where on earth are you shopping???

By the way - I hope you know that a shackle lift contributes to rapid sagging of the rear leafs.

You could go even cheaper by pulling some from a Junk Yard. Although they may flatten out sooner than new it would get ya by for a year or two.

Thanks man, I just typed in a google search and wasnt finding anything cheap. $150 plus shipping is still a lil steep. Think Im gonna try XJ Stryker route and get some used springs cheap. I wanna do a real lift just cant swing it right now.

Really? I didnt know shackles do that. I bought the truck as is last weekend. It drives fine but the rear is sitting a lil low.

A Bastard pack is when you take the leafs from an s10 or older dodge dakota and you mix the springs in with your cherokee springs until you net the lift your lookng for... it is much cheaper (did my entire 5" lift for $86 ) but by far not an exact science
no i dont have any pics of how it turned out lol not yet

Would this work if my stock springs are shot already though?

Yes, it will still work. I added a stock Cherokee long leaf to my existing pack(with the ends cut off) and it really brought a smile back to them. Got an inch of lift. I already had a shackle which tends to invert leafs, and this did the trick. My sagging, flat leafs are flat no more. They probably won't sag anymore than they are cause the donor leaf was broken in already. Cheap too.

Is there anyway to determine how much lift ill have? I 1.7" spacers in the front so I want it to sit level but I dont wanna play a guessing game in the driveway all day either.

It is a guessing game, it's not hard just time consuming, IMHO a proper set up bastard pack usually will out flex a new lift pack, and usually rides better. Springs have allready sagged and they are broken in. Well worth a Saturday of your time, pick up a case and invite a friend over.
