These folks seem to disagree with u in regard to multi-pass rad design. They recommend aluminum over copper/brass. Interesting read whether u agree or disagree. ScanGauge shows our OE type 1 row (1 1/4" wide tube) aluminum/plastic rad is working great.

How hot is too hot?..........ECU turns efan on at 218F so my guess is that's where the engineers wanted things to start cooling down. If coolant temps are actually north of 222.5, a 180 t-stat would have no advantage over a 195 t-stat.....they're both wide open at 220+ and a properly functioning t-stat only controls MINIMUM coolant temp.
How old are cooling system components? The XJ rad is really dinky, everything must be in top notch condition.

you say the e-fan should come on around 218f, mine comes on between 223-235f. on the highway it stays between 210-215 but in traffic..... looks like im pushing 240. fortunately, it evens out before reaching the red. im thinking the temp control unit might be faulty.... any thoughts?

My thoughts are, what has/has not been replaced regarding cooling system components. Gauge/sending unit/electrical could be an issue.....just gotta start checkin' things.
Amazon shipped me the wrong radiator. I got a single row aluminum instead of a 2 row. I sent it back and ordered a 3 row brass/copper.
Here's what's on the way now.

I also have a Hayden 402 trans cooler on the way. I'm gonna bypass the rad trans cooler and use this aux unit for trans cooling exclusivly.
#402 on this sheet. 5" high and about 16" in length. That should be enough. http://www.haydenauto.com/upload/Hay...il-coolers.pdf

BTW, what is the path of the fluid at the factory lines at the radiator? There's upper and lower connections at the radiator. Which line has fluid comming from the trans, the top or bottom one?

Bottom line (on the rad) is from the tranny, top line is return to the tranny. Top line (on the rad) is the one to splice the auxiliary cooler into.
