Default RPM vs Speed

All,

I think I am offically going nuts. I have had my Jeep in the transmission shop for over a week now w/ the complaint of no OD. They have continually told me there is no issue and it goes into all gears w/o issue. I told them the RPM's are too high at highway speed. I am roughly running 2800-2900 at 78-80 MPH currently. That seems too high. My memory seems to think I was running somewhere between 2400 and 2500 RPM's. Now with my current 30" tires I figured it would be lower than it was with my 235's. I have referenced a few RPM calculators and they all point to the higher RPM as correct. Although, when you input the specific gear ratio of 0.75 which is the OD ratio of the AW4 trans, is says I should be somewhere between 2200 and 2300 RPM's?? WTF. I need some help. Everyone with auto trans XJ's, especially with 30" tires, I need to know what your highway speed RPM's are. Please let me know ASAP!

Thanks!

At 80 mph my stock 99 runs right around 2800. At 70 I think it sits at 2300 rpm.

Wonder if maybe the torque converter is not "locking up"?......lock up is usually good for 300-400 less rpm.

72mph was 2250rpm on my '96 today, and that is OD w/lockup.

S3 is the lockup solenoid, and the brake pedal switch will inhibit lockup.

Mine goes into OD at 40mph with light throttle and then lockup is felt and seen on the tach at 45mph.

.....and I believe lock-up will occur in both 3rd and 4th gear light throttle.
