I have the basic tools needed, how long does it usually take to change the flex plate? And can I get it by involving the transmission and drive shaft and just pushing the tranny back some or does it have to be dropped?

Crazy !!

Probably best to just swap entire axle. To costly to repair existing, with setting gears , etc.

I haven't done it on a jeep but I think if you removed the driveshafts and disconnected everything like you were going to drop it you could slide it back enough to remove the flex plate. but at that point just drop that stuff to get it out of the way. time consuming more than anything.

Guessing it's pretty time consuming to swap

"Guessing it's pretty time consuming to swap"
In a shop with the proper tools (not bad) or laying on ones back in a driveway? (yep)

Yeah I'd be laying on my back in my garage, with basic tools, nothing special
