How To fix Cherokee Volt Gauge
I swapped cluster in my 95 Cherokee from the basic one with idiot lights to one with a tach and gauges and I have been happy except for one thing, the voltage gauge was always reading low. I tried the fix listed here http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/r...ge-fix-684375/ but it didn't work so I took the cluster out and took the gauge apart and jumped it straight to a battery and found it still read low so I knew the problem was the gauge itself and not my wiring. Power runs through a diode then the gauge then a resistor to ground. My diode tested good so I bypassed the resistor and my gauge maxed out so the resistor is the determining factor of how high or low the gauge reads. The stock one is 120 ohm so I played with a few and found that with a 47 ohm and a 10 ohm so 57 ohms total I get the gauge to read 14v with the engine running and no accessory's on and I have 14v at the battery with my meter so I'm calling it good. The first picture shows the gauge after I started the jeep with no accessory's on. The second shows where you have to solder the new resistors, don't worry if there long these fit perfect because the cluster is deep. The third picture shows the old resistor that you have to remove. Please note that my problem was with the gauge itself and not my wiring, alternator, or battery. I'm not responsible for any damage caused by using this information.
