What does "not knowing how to listen" exactly mean like listening for distortion or the bottoming out of a subwoofer because that is how i am percieving it, or the part where some people put like 2-4 12inch subs or even more extreme in which it causes the system to be so unbalanced that you can never hear the mids and highs accept for when the subwoofers are not hitting ?

I love my bass so I guess I'm not a careful listener either lol.
The only set up I have is an older 600watt sub in a truck box cant remember the manufacture atm JVC I think. A free jensen 600watt 4 chan amp with built in cross over and set to 2 chan and bridged, an older JVC head unit that is 200 or 250 total I think.
It is not installed atm but was in my old s-15 jimmy. It dont rattle windows around the block but sounds damn good in the truck and from a reasonable distance but its not a ticket getter
.
My set up cost me maybe a total of $300 when I bought everything,of course the amp was free so that helped. Its a very low budget set up and I used the 6 stock speakers.as well since they were in good shape.
Low budget but I could enjoy anything I felt like listening to and I listen to just about everything lol rock, rap, country etc etc.
In my opinion you dont have to go all out and broke to have a decent sound system in your vehicle.Get a good speaker and proper enclosure (improper sized enclosure will contribute to poor sound and blowing your speakers too) set it up so it sounds good to you and enjoy
. The amp is important too but not as much as the speaker and enclosure imo, also a cross over is a great thing to have as well so you can filter unwanted tones from your sub.
Thats my un professional opinion on the matter.

There is no way of measuring Wattage as of yet, maybe in the future.
Find out how many Ohms your voice coils are, and look up your amps specs. It will tell you (Ex. 120wRMS@4Ohms.)

Digital Designs for Subwoofers, RD for Components, and Sundown for Amps. Each have pros and cons.
