Default How does someone find a good shop for installs?

I've been searching the forum and can't find the answer to this in posts I've read, so excuse me if this is a redundant post.

What I'm looking for is a recommendation on finding a good install shop for modifications (primarily, a complete lift kit). I'll admit, I'm a monkey when it comes to repair work, other than oil changes and basic tune-ups. I have no idea how to install a lift-kit myself (and won't try and screw it up) , and need to find a shop who does good work.

I'm in Washington State and have a 2001 Cherokee that I adore... I'm willing to pay a bit extra for a decent mechanic to work on it, but have no idea where to look.

How does someone find a decent shop to do this kind of work? I'm a bit leery about taking my rig to a local mechanic in the hopes that they know what they're doing for my install (and possibly screwing it up) and don't want to risk the parts, money, and my Cherokee to find out I picked the wrong one... (and if this is an really uneducated perspective, please let me know).

Any suggestions, folks?

Thanks much

Where in washington are you? There is someone in Seabeck that advertises on Craigslist as a Jeep only shop and they do a wide range of stuff there even custom from what they claim, haven't done business with them but have asked them some things and they seem ok. There is a shop just down the road from me that does just about everything so I go there they have been around for a long time and do good work and work on anything. Took an Audi I had for awhile there once.

when looking for a good shop to do stuff like that ask questions make sure they have a good rep and if they have been around for a while that usually means that their work is pretty good if its an off road shop check out their trucks you can see what they did and how it looked

I'm in Bellingham, so that's a bit of a drive. Then again, I'm willing to jump through hoops if they're good enough, so I'll check it out thanks

Thanks much for the response! How do you find out about a shop's feedback? I've tried online reviews from a couple places, but not much seems out there for reviews. Is it just word of mouth?

Appreciate you both taking the time to answer

its gonna be hard to find reviews on most places really u need to know someone that has been there and stuff like that, i mean if u go somewhere and its a nice shop as in clean, looks like they have the tools to do the job stuff like that it can tell you a lot, if u get what i mean, i would try to sneak a peek inside the building itself and go from there, if its a mess and stuff i would stay away, thats just personal opinion

I think those are both good suggestions, thanks guys. And I didn't even think of doing that, Mike, that's probably a great start.

Appreciate the help! This forum is pretty great

There are good auto repair shops in Washington that you might need for recommendation on finding a good install shop for modifications. Some are the best in installing and upgrading some parts.

Les Schwab installs lift kits and will stand behind their work.

Hah, I have the same standing offer with all of my friends... who consistently and frequently make use of it. Their wives all consider me cheap labor, and it gives me hang-out time with my buddies that way
