You want to add a quart to a toasted tranny to get a few more miles out of it then go ahead, but for gods sake, if the trans is working ok.....LEAVE IT ALONE! keep the fluid fresh (every 50-60k for dex3) and change the filter with a fluid change.

Flushes are just that....they flush money out of your wallet and into the shops. Next biggest waste of money next to lucas.

And fyi to everyone else, many manufactuers (chrysler included) have tsb's out that specifically state that fluid color alone is NOT a determining factor in if trans fluid is no longer in its useful life. Atf+4 and other newer fluids smell almost like burnt dex3 to unknowing people. Smelling trans fluid is getting to be no longer useful either.

Your best bet is: change the fluid and filter and drive the **** out of it. Nothing you add to the transmission now is going to fix an existing problem, and its not going to keep a failure from happening down the road.

The only product i would ever reccommend using as an additive is lubeguard or dr. Trans. These products are approved by manufactuers as an additive to dex3 to make it compatible with newer fluid specs. (i.e. to make dex3 equivilant to honda atf or to mercon5)
thanks. thats what i was thinking and you reassured me. WHen i get back from my vacation (about 2400 miles) i will bring it back in to get the proper tranny service at a tranny specialist i know....

I know its hard to tell who is telling the truth and who is just repeating things theyve heard from their uncles brothers roommate who used to change oil back in 1963 when everyone is just behind a screenname and a picture of their rig. Take everything you read on these forums with a grain of salt.

Personally, ive been an r&r tech at a national transmissiom shop for 5 years, and ive worked for three different builders, all with 20+ years of experience. Lucas is bad news, and ive seen some pretty crazy stuff come through the shop, one person actually put motor oil in the trans....

i have never been a fan of any additives other than techron fuel injector cleaner.

i just keep reading so many people swearing by lucas tranny additives... i firmly believe in just doing a complete tranny service every 30k miles.

Any oil additives, engine... transmission... or otherwise are nothing but snake oil in my opinion--designed to separate you from your hard earned money.

My wife's Dodge Ram has 0ver 400k miles on it--Mobile 1 oil changed whenever we remember... the trans oil probably has 200k on it. No additives ever.
