Kill switch is a great idea but if you want money to fix your broke ride after it was stripped then you need good insurance.
Just having good car insurance won't replace the stuff stolen from inside. Last year my truck's window was smashed and they stole $800 worth of electronic stuff inside, but car insurance wasn't going to cover that, just the broken window. The stuff inside depended on my house insurance and what my deductible was...but since the deducible was $1000 I was SOL, and to clarify the truck was not at the house at the time of break in. This is with both the house and truck being insured with Allstate. However, it could be different for other insurance companies.

I live in detroit too.
If you remove the ignition wire (a.k.a. "detroit kill switch") most thieves around here (experienced ones at least) will pull a wire from a plug and just replace it.

I have an alarm on my 98 right now. (remote start, etc)

The KEY is LOTS of BLINKING LIGHTS.
Most thieves will just go to another car that doesn't have an obvious alarm. The stoned/high ones will just stand there mezmorized.

When you have you alarm installed, they can actually add multiple lights.
I have 3. One on the left, right, and in the middle.
That way, when they're driving around scouting out cars to hit, they might keep driving.

Also... if you put a kill off the battery cable, you better be using a hell of a toggle. I kept melting toggles like nothing when i had one like that. I finally started using a switch I bought from SEARS designed for table saws.

THE ULTIMATE... in car security (that doesn't include gun powder or a leash)

Run a kill switch from your fuel pump line up the inside of your driver side door jam. The reasons for this...

1.) When you engage it, if someone's watching, it ins't obvoius if your hand hits your doorsill when you get out.

2.) If you get car-jacked, when you get out of the car, you can hit it, looking innocent, and about 1/4 mile down the road, or 15 seconds... whatever comes first, the car will stall.

Of course, DISCLAIMER, messing with people with guns is a bad idea, unless you have one yourself. Most carjacker's (in the D anyhow) guns are fake, unloaded, or broken... this is why they are stealing cars. They usually DO NOT want to shoot you, they just want the car. I suggest GIVING it TO THEM. You can get another. Get out. Flip your hidden switch on the way past, turn, and run the other way.... because he's gonna be PISSED when your baby stops running.

Postscript:
Take your cell with you when you get out. So that way you can call the Fuzz, and perhaps a ride. If the cops show up and catch him, it'll be funny when the put him in the car, and you get into your Jeep and start it up with him (the Perp) watching.

a pair of vice grips on the splines and now you have a make shift steering wheel!

what i use is a safety film that goes between the tint and my window. they can hit it as much as they want and it will just spider and crack but never break all of the way thru. i will see if i can dig up some pictures but i have some where someone tried to break in to steel my subs and amps and the window was all shattered but still intact. I was able to lean on the window like it was not even broken. you could see the hit mark and it broke just like tempered glass should but nothing happened besides that.

i also run 5% tint.

and if they try to jimmy my door the cheap old plastic clips will just break and then they are stuck inside the xj because the handle wont work haha

Kill switch board have like 4 switches below your seat and set a code like up up up down to be able to crank that puppy. Might be a little over the top but have had 2 vehicles stolen with single hidden kill switches, because if they know what they are doing they will find it.

alarm + kill switch to the fuel pump ballast resistor (super easy since its in the engine compartment) which will allow the truck to start and then die after 2 seconds but never run + security stickers everywhere + limo tinted windows + kill switch to ignition switch. with the alarm going off no one will stick around long enough to figure out how to get it started and if you cant activate the ignition switch they cant pull it out of park right?

Secure a Jeep? I don't 90% of the time. I do lock it in public parking lots, most of the time. At home, I usually don't even roll up the windows. Most people in my neiborhood know it would be suicidal to mess with it. Heck I even leave my motorcycle sitting in the front yard with the keys in it sometimes, for days at a time.

Mine usually sits in the driveway, sometimes the keys are in it, sometimes theyre on the passengers/drivers seat.
I barely ever lock it and the windows are always down.
Theres nothing in it to steal, and they would pry start it, hear the knock and be afraid its gonna blow up.
